National Amusement Machine Operators Association Ltd (NAMOA) Responds to Proposed S.A. Ban of Redemption Amusement Machines
NAMOA doesn't believe a ban on selected amusement machines in South Australia would effectively tackle the real problem of gambling in that State.
The S.A. Government proposal to ban amusement games available in shopping centres, cinemas and games arcades, believing they promote gambling tendencies in adult life, closed for public consultation 13 May 2011.
NAMOA spokesperson Mike Slattery said that the discussion paper doesn’t tackle the serious and real issue of problem adult gambling, which is known to be attributed to a number of factors, including family and social influences.
"Members of the NAMOA are committed to upholding the integrity of the industry and already have in place stringent ethical guidelines to which we operate our machines by," Mr Slattery said.
"NAMOA doesn’t support gambling of any nature and all machines managed by our members are operated in a fair manner, including the restriction of the total prize value of machines, revoking the association of ‘children gambling’."
"Amusement machines operated by NAMOA members already do so under strict conditions, they don’t display promotional material that endorses a gambling nature, and offer prizes only in accordance with the classification and advisories provided."
"Our machines certainly don’t actively promote gambling and are largely in major arcade venues where there are parent and adult supervision, with kids only using these games at the discretion and financial support of their parents."
