KIDS IN CRANES

Or to be politically correct…

Children Inside Prize Redemption Amusement Machines

There have been a number of incidents where children have managed to get inside prize redemption amusement machines. Some of these incidents have been reported on prime time television news where unfortunately, some of these young children may be watching. Perhaps the media are unwittingly promoting this type of activity to other young impressionable children who might then be inspired to do a copycat – monkey see monkey do – and have a go themselves. Kids don’t realise the danger and may think it’s cool to get inside a prize machine, or encourage a smaller child to squeeze in and then hand out the goodies.

Parents should also be very aware that this activity could happen as they have likely seen such news presentations themselves and in reality the matter has now become common knowledge.

In all recorded incidents parents are not present at the time of the machine invasion. This is not the industry instigating a blame game, but where are the parents!?

This phenomenon has happened in many other countries around the world and although there seems to be no adverse reaction generally, NAMOA cannot idly stand by and allow this activity to go unchecked. The amusement industry in Australia has been alerted by NAMOA through direct communication from its own database, through its member and distributor network, and through The Collector, the Association’s quarterly newsletter.

There are a number of remedies (modifications) which seem to have been effective and they are listed in the member section of this website.

We encourage all operators to attend to this matter immediately.
